How To Install A Joomla TemplateNow that you have uploaded and installed Joomla as in our previous article installing a joomla website, you need to start setting up your website, when Joomla is installed and  when you go to your domain url you will usually see the standerd Joomla login module showing and the home page menu item, there a few basic settings we need to set before we start.

To get started login to your back end using your domain url ( use your login username and password that you setup when you installed Joomla previously then go to system global configuration in the admin menu top left of the console.

Enter the site settings and type in your websites name and check the editor has tinyMCE selected, if you are setting up a blog for articles you will need to download the jce editor the standerd editor is very basic, enter a site meta description and your main keywords, and check the robots tag is set to index follow, in the seo settings set url rewriting to yes and search engine friendly urls to yes.

The template is what holds your site together and displays the content that you enter through the websites back end to your website visitors, the template is made up of module positions like side-bar this position is to the left or to the right of your main componant, every template is desingned differently with different module positions to suit the layout the template was built for, templates are available in free and paid versions.

The settings above are only the very basic to start, once you get to know Joomla you can tweak other settings later on, when Joomla is first setup you are supplied with the stranded template which is very basic, you need to search around the internet and find a third party template that you like, then download to your desktop and go to extensions in the backend manage then select or drag and drop the zip file for your template and this will automatically upload and install.

Now go to extensions templates, you will see the installed template from joomla and the one you just uploaded, on the new template click on the star, default for all pages and make sure it is orange now return to your front end domain and you will see the look and layout has changed you are now using your new template.

To see what settings are available on your choosen template, click on the styles of template that you are currently using and the template page will open up, here you will find alot of parameters that you can change to alter the layout and look every template is different and some templates require plugins before they will work like Gantry and T3 templates, so if you are having any trouble accessing your template ensure the required plugin is activated under extensions then plugins.
